RUMOR: Grain of Salt....

I know, the name of the site is news AND rumors, but I usually try to shy away from the rumor stuff all together. Too much BS to weed through most of the time and really not worth the headache.

But as much of you have noticed, an anonymous poster in the comments below posted what (s)he claims is a list pulled straight from the poster for the festival and frankly, its too good to not discuss.

Ive emailed back and forth with said person, and (s)he is by far the most believable line up leaker I have come across so far.

That being said, until these names can be confirmed, we should consider this list to just be rumor.

Why is this person so believable?

Anonymous said...

It's true. I can vouch for probably 80% of those.

Unknown said...

I saw it with my own eyes.

Some were in parentheses (Killers, Vedder) so take what you will from that...

I believe this is about 90% correct.

What's the deal with Eddie Veder going solo? I've always hated Pearl Jam so I can definitely be behind on news surrounding this bozo, but I didn't know he ever performed alone.

Still not believing this list, but I'll have fun talking about it.

This is a very good list, and a lot of it seems pretty reasonable. The only thing that I notice is that it swings back to the 2005 hipster side rather than the 2006 KGSR-heavy side. Which is fine with me. Most dicey names here in terms of believability are Vedder, Wonder, and Good/Bad/Queen. Oh, and Cat Stevens, that's a wildcard.

I hope Eddie Vedder is a rumor. I would hate it if he was there. The only thing worse would be Eddie Vedder playing with the Killers.

Anonymous said...

What's with the hatin' on the Vedder man. Ed is God. Sheesh!

Unknown said...

Its an interesting list, to say the least. I also agree that last year was waaaay too KGSR and not enough 101x. I hope this lists is an accurate portrayal of who is or will be there

Anonymous said...

What is KGSR?

I heard yesterday from some people on the inside that the headliner Friday is Bjork, Saturday is Bob Dylan.

This whole list is just absurdly amazing. I'm crossing my fingers.

Most of it sounds pretty believable; if this line-up turns out to be even mostly true, I'd be very happy. I've been dying to catch acts like LCD Soundsystem, Peter Bjorn & John, and Regina Spektor.

I didn't enjoy the older-leaning lineup from 2006 (three older acts as headliners) as much as I did the younger-leaning stuff in 2005.

As far as what I would call bull on... Bob Dylan, Neil Young, AND Stevie Wonder??? I mean, COME ON! Bob Dylan has NEVER been at ACL before. I was reading on ACL's site a while back that he perennially refuses their requests to do a taping. Neil Young would have been awesome to have seen when he was young - I saw him on TV a while back and he sounded awful.

What's-his-face said the headliner would be bigger than Radiohead. They better damn well better be.

One thing to consider re Vedder (and esp with his name in parentheses, as some who have seen the list have noted) might be the fact that perhaps he's gonna be a guest with one of the acts (i.e. Neil Young). Would also cut down on one more headliner for a list that seems to have too many.

I seriously am getting excited, especially if Dylan plays Saturday night...can't think of a better way to watch the sunset in Austin
Then again, this could all be a really bad joke. I do think that we need to start deciding what ACL after party show we all are going to go to....if 55,000 show up for Friday, any guesses on how many actualy stick around for the Bjork show?

Bertha Argueta said...

I call bull on Bob Dylan. The ACL TV show people posted on their site a while back that he refuses their perennial requests to perform. I love Dylan, but he seems like a HUGE dick - I don't know that he'd perform in Texas in fucking September.

Anonymous said...

Thanks to rain on my parade bertha..i was thinking how good that beer was gonna taste as he started playing the first few chords, especially if I had just got done seeing the rest of those folks on the list all at one location

Unknown said...

Remember, this is just a "potential" lineup. nothing is set in stone yet.

tthorn said...

Erm, it's one thing for Dylan to turn down a KLRU-TV taping for scale wages and quite another to turn doen a couple of hundred grand from Charles Attal. Dylan will route his tour around ACL if the offer and conditions are right.

Anonymous said...

Vedder has been doing a few solo shows here and there lately. I believe it's also the case that Gossard and McCready have kids coming this summer so that may be why he'd head out without the full band.

Unknown said...

tthorn, you're right, its all about the money a promoter will pay in talent fees. Heres part of dylans rider contract, made me chuckle....

Anonymous said...

i can 100% vouch for dylan. but i don't know what day he'll be playing.

Anonymous said...

and there's 30+ more bands to come if that's the list!

Anonymous said...

what, no beck!?

Anonymous said...

I work with CSE, and I can also vouch for this posting. All 93 artists on the list are signed. Niel Young is headlining, with Wilco closing Saturday night. Bob Dylan is playing an afternoon double set slot!

Anonymous said...

I guess we'll wait and see. It's hard for me to believe ANY list that is posted by an anonymous source.

But if even half the list turns out to be right it will be an awesome festival.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't post this list any other way, hell even to come verify it I went through a proxy. I don't want to lose my job!

Anonymous said...

So I guess what would do it for me would be if the "source" emailed hansford proof. Then hansford without giving away any identities can gives us all a thumbs up or down.

Hell, email hansford a picture of your pay stubb.

Anonymous said...

if that's the list, i hope they get some good obscure bands. i've seen like half the list already. bjork, cat stevens, and devotchka are the three ones i haven't seen that i'd most look forward to.

oops messed up the link in the last one.

I just went to the myspace page for acl and saw the lineup when it loaded. I hit print screen and clicked on the blog to see if there was a new entry, when I returned the site had changed back. Maybe somebody posted it early by mistake?

nice try, but it's kind of hard for them to post the line up and delete it when their last login was on monday.

Cat Stevens isn't allowed into the country. He's (or was, as of 2004) on the no-fly terror watchlist.

All you so-called insiders, what's the date of the release of the lineup? Why were ticket prices for the April 17 sale date not announced in advance? And if all these bands are really coming to Austin, why are ACL three-day passes significantly less expensive than Lollapalooza three-day passes, which has a great lineup, but is surely less expensive than this dream lineup?

Sarahfeats said...

Actually, Cat Stevens was in the US in Dec. 2006

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_stevens

Anonymous said...

Don't think Decemberists will be playing considering they'll be over seas during that time period.

I wish I could believe this lineup...It's pretty awesome. But, I know not all of it will be true.

Anonymous said...

According to the Decemberists Website, the first overseas date is 9/22. Why would that preclude them from playing ACL? I would certainly take this list with a grain of salt, but from the research I've done on it, the acl dates are viable for these bands.

stefanie said...

um, tickets for the april 17 sale date WERE announced in advance. i had it written in my planner for like 3 weeks before it happened.

Jasun said...

i think he is saying that ticket prices were not revealed until they went on sale.

which is how it always is.

Anonymous said...

man it's obvious that image is a fake, too many big bands at the bottom, and no weird accent thing on "bjork"

Unknown said...

A couple of things...

1. I posted the list because I saw it with my own eyes. You can attach it to my name and email me if you wish at fan.acl@gmail.com

2. Decemberists will be in Europe starting on 9/22...

3. Cat Stevens can come to the US.

Anonymous said...

ACL did you see this full list with all these names, or a smaller list with less names? I think it's possible we have a half-real half-fake list.

Anonymous said...

It came from two different lists from the rumors message board. There's typos because it wasn't cut and pasted from anywhere, nor was it proofread.

Anonymous said...

Paolo nutini is for sure coming, he told me it was a sure deal at SXSW.

Salad Days Music said...

As long as The National and the Arcade Fire are there The $120 is money well spent!

Anonymous said...

Dylan will not be playing 2 sets. The only people who have played 2 sets at ACL Fest are people who always play 2 sets, like Panic, Trey Anastasio, and String Cheese Incident. Dylan never plays 2 sets.

Anonymous said...

OK I talked to my friend who is the works PR with ACL and he claims that Eddie Vedder will play with Neil Young.

Anonymous said...

just fyi, from another forum:

I forwarded that blog link to my friend at the festival and he basically laughed at me and told me that I make fun of people who believe in the Nigerian Prince email so he was laughing at me for believing in this one. He said that many on there were accurate and will be there but that most, as in majority, would not be and that some of those bands had never been approached by CSE/Attal this year or in years past...

Anonymous said...

yay more old people possibly closing out the festival....
:P

Anonymous said...

I love old people!

(Seriously though, bring on Dylan and Neil. After Tom last year, I'll have checked out all three legendary old nasally guys!)

Anonymous said...

Nothing better than young people with an inflated opinion of themselves.

Anonymous said...

I see where you're coming from, as names like Dylan and Young are legendary names and people love them regardless of their age or performance style now just because "it's Dylan man!" you know? Although I must say that there are still old bands with inflated opinions about themselves (Rolling Stones? they STILL think they're 20!)

Anonymous said...

I really hope this list is real!!!! if it is I'm going to have a hard time trying to pick what bands to see that weekend..

Anonymous said...

did i actually read someone post "how many people will actually stay around for bjork?" What? There is no bigger name on that list PERIOD. Dylan and Young might as well be the same musician. Old, out-dated and completely irrelevant at this point. LCD, Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, White Stripes... Where is Chk Chk Chk???

Anonymous said...

I agree. I personally would rather see more contemporary acts headline. Regardless, it's the rest of the lineup that's the most fun though.

Anonymous said...

how do you know that some are confrimed? is this another source telling you that infact they are confirmed?

Anonymous said...

"Dylan and Young might as well be the same musician. Old, out-dated and completely irrelevant at this point."

you're an freaking idiot. stay home.
