A couple of readers in Austin emailed me this morning to let me know that it was announced last night, after their show at Stubbs was canceled due to weather, that Blonde Redhead said they will be back in Austin to play ACL Fest.
also, i know the manager of this band and he hinted at them being at ACL - http://www.theavettbrothers.com/
if so, watch out, seriously...they are one of the best bands I have seen live and am seeing them 3 times in the next month, over 30 times now total....
soundgarden would be tight but seems like too much of a niche band, doesn't cross over as big as people like tom petty, ben harper, or coldplay. and if they did reunite, that would call for the main show at any other gig.
im calling prince, no one else has dropped the name and he has the connections with austin's groupo fantasmo. he fits into all of attal's descriptions and hints.
"im calling prince, no one else has dropped the name"
Prince has been mentioned on a ton of message boards, including this one. Look around. I agree it's a good guess (and would be a lot of fun), but his name has been thrown around quite a bit.
Lots of new folks making posts. The Police and Prince have been discussed a lot. Pretty much any viable band (and some that simply are not) you can think of has shown up at some point.
Like a blind squirrel that gets a nut, some of those folks will be right.
I mentioned over on the ACL official forum about Soundgarden when i heard it mentioned somewhere on here a few days ago and got me thinking..maybe they are gonna put together some kind of all star band ie Temple of the Dog....that takes care of the Eddie Vedder rumors also...
I think Tori fits. She will be done with her European tour at the end of July and should be starting up her North American tour around the time of ACL. Her music also fits with the styles of ACL.
jane's addiction wouldnt happen because of perry's "satellite party" and dave and co's "panic channel." both bands are trying to establish their name and reuniting jane's would destroy the two bands, thus angering the record companies.
I hope this doesn't happen, but I always here rumors before every festival that this is going to be the one for a Phish reunion. And Trey and Mike have both played ACL before.
For all we know, most of the schedule has already been leaked. The "list" has been somewhat accurate. No reason to think that a ton of bands on the list won't be on the final list.
As for headliners. A few of the bands could land in headliner spots. The bigger question is who the main headliner is (Sunday).
For that matter, they could also break tradition and use both stages on Sunday night. That would be kinda cool.
I expect a name or two with larger drawing capacity than Bjork and White Stripes will be revealed (i.e, acts that usually headline arenas). I expect both Bjork and White Stripes will play at night on one of the two big stages.
What tradition? Isn't the dual headliners thing relatively new to the fest? I seem to remember other Friday/Saturday headliners getting their own slot in the past...
Besides, the festival's only 5 years old so it's not like tradition would be too much to break.
Usually one band plays the final set on Sunday (R.E.M, Coldplay, Tom Petty). During that one set, all other stages are vacant (minus a few of the smaller stages wrapping up during the first portion of the set).
Aside from that, there is music on multiple stages throughout the rest entire weekend. At anytime, 2 or 3 stages have music. At the end of the night, usually one main stage runs a little longer than the other, mainly for crowd control issues (see issues cited in 2004).
Friday and Saturday you get two headliners and one starts and ends a little early for crowd control.
Sunday you only get one. But as mentioned above the notion of using the screens from one of the other stages on Sunday has been tossed around before. Maybe one day they might try it.
When you think headliners and ACL you have to remember that there is not 1 or even 3 but actually 5 (2+2+1). Bjork and the White Stripes will probably fall in that 5 but neither will be THE headliner.
Some guy on another rumor site listed this. I'm sure this is just a wish list, but it was just posted this afternoon. He seemed to think it was pretty much locked in. Anyone else heard anything like this?
Friday: -about 2, Lily Allen AMD -about 2, My morning jacket AT&T -about 3, Eli young band Heineken -about 430, Killers AT&T -about 430, Kings of Leon AMD -about 645, Blue October AT&T -about 645, Maroon5 AMD -about 745, Bjork AMD -about 8, Coldplay AT&T
Saturday: -1230, Joss Stone AT&T -2, Corinne Bailey Rae AMD -2, Interpol AT&T -3, Paolo Nutini AT&T -430, Yeah Yeah Yeahs AMD -430, OK GO AT&T -645, Stephen Marley AMD -645, Arcade Fire AT&T -745, Strokes AMD -8, Bob Dylan AT&T
Sunday: 1230, Arctic Monkeys AT&T 2, Decemberists AT&T 3, Blonde Redhead AMD 430, Ben Kweller AT&T 430, Robert Earl Keen AMD 530, Thievery Corporation AMD 645, White Stripes AT&T 645, Wilco AMD 8, Train AMD 830, Sir Paul McCartney AT&T
You can't please all the people all the time, that's what's great about a festival with so many stages. It's called diversity. Who cares who is scheduled to perform? I bought my tickets long ago and will be there even if I haven't heard of (or thought I wouldn't like) 90% of the bands. Every year I have heard someone new that I loved. A shit band to one might be someone's favorite. Can't we all just get along.....
I know it's probably pretty infeasible, but does anyone think that there's even a remote possibility of Daniel Johnston ever playing ACL? That would be spectacular.
Thievery played two years in a row. Ben Kweller has played at three ACL's. Wilco has also played three years. They're not major acts in the way that Coldplay are, but Coldplay does have a new album coming out and were rumored to have really enjoyed playing the festival.
you can't put thievery and ben kweller on the same level as coldplay. regardless of what you think of them in spite of whatever indie cred you may have, they are a hugely successful band, internationally known and liked in both mainstream and out. coldplay is an arena band, and they would not play a festival without headlining it. we would not see them headline again, not so soon at least. duh.
" Don't be surprised if the lineup is NOT posted tomorrow. Just sayin..."

it says May 10th at the bottom....why would a big festival advertise their schedule to be released on a specific date and then not do it....silly comment
anyways....I posted the Springsteen rumor a while back and I'm sticking to it....hoping hoping hoping...
It's possible Daniel Johnston would play on one of the smaller stages...just because he plays in Austin SO often. I really don't see him as an ACL act though.
Coldplay on Friday...are you serious? HA. I don't think a band as huge as Coldplay would go from being probably the biggest headliner ACL has ever had to playing on a Friday night...
i dont think that coldplay is the biggest headliner ACL has ever had. It doesnt only have to deal with album sales. Alot of the great headliners have something else in common, the fact that they are innovators of their genre. Yeah coldplay is good, im not denying that, but you need to look at the impact bands like Tom Petty & the heartbreakers have had on music or maybe somebody like Johny Cash when he headlined years ago. Im not saying these are my favorite bands my any means but their impact will forever be felt. Aside from that, GO STROKES!!!! that was be badass on another level

badass
I'm also hoping for camera obscura
Thats an interesting turn of events...
hope the Annuals show up too (opening for Blonde Redhead)
I recently saw the Annuals open for the Dears in NYC. They were absolutely incredible live - even better than on their album, which is mighty fine.
SWEET...
yeah, they (Annuals) are from my town - Raleigh, NC
what about Hot Chip...any word on them?
also, i know the manager of this band and he hinted at them being at ACL -

are there any REALISTIC bands who have yet to reunite? that seems to be the trendy thing this year for festivals, booking a reunion.
Nelson
SOUNDGARDEN.
soundgarden would be tight but seems like too much of a niche band, doesn't cross over as big as people like tom petty, ben harper, or coldplay. and if they did reunite, that would call for the main show at any other gig.

sly and the family stone. sly played for the first time in years recently...
neither ben harper nor sly and the family stone would attract the crowds that Soundgarden would.
fortunately...
"im calling prince, no one else has dropped the name"
Prince has been mentioned on a ton of message boards, including this one. Look around. I agree it's a good guess (and would be a lot of fun), but his name has been thrown around quite a bit.
I'm say The Police...any takers?
not unless The Police have figured out a way to clone themselves so they can be two places at once...
Lots of new folks making posts. The Police and Prince have been discussed a lot. Pretty much any viable band (and some that simply are not) you can think of has shown up at some point.

ok....Mellencamp then
This is ourrrrrrrr countryyyyyyyyy

dude i wonder of theres gonna be a major leak like last year!
Neutral Milk Hotel!
I'm not so sure Neutral Milk is that far off base....
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/37148
Don't EVEN try and get my hopes up about NMH. If they played I would bawl like a baby.
Tori Amos anyone?
I also hope Robert Gomez is somewhere on the list and not because I've hung out at many of parties at his house after shows in Denton.....
congratulations on hanging out at mr. gomez's house, your so cool! i wish i could be like anonymous...
Tori Amos is a good guess...I'm suprised nobody has mentioned her name before. She would make sense to me, I think. Hmmm...
you got to hang out with robert gomez!!!!?
I think Tori fits. She will be done with her European tour at the end of July and should be starting up her North American tour around the time of ACL. Her music also fits with the styles of ACL.
two solo women headliners?
Tori Amos a headliner? Are y'all trying to make a joke?
ACL has a style? I've never thought the festival was pigeonholed into a style (except hot and dusty) and hope it stays open-minded about the music.
^^^Sure ACL has a style. It's Adult Contemporary/Roots/Indie Rock. At least that's what the game plan has mostly seemed to be the past half decade...
Me gusta Guster anyone?
Te Gusta Guster!!!
Tori Amos...mmm hundreds of girls with daddy issues lined up for the pickin'. Much easier to deal with than those Bjork fangirls.
What about a Smiths reunion? We can have a band for the emotionally unstable guys at the show, too.
The line up will be out within a week, what other rumors can be fueled?
Perry sure did enjoy himself at sxsw, what about Jane's Addiction?
Or an Austin stop for Guns n' Roses?
Jane's Addiction would be great! Axl can't hold it together enough to lock him in at a headline spot. He's too much of a liability.
jane's addiction wouldnt happen because of perry's "satellite party" and dave and co's "panic channel." both bands are trying to establish their name and reuniting jane's would destroy the two bands, thus angering the record companies.
I hope this doesn't happen, but I always here rumors before every festival that this is going to be the one for a Phish reunion. And Trey and Mike have both played ACL before.
acl would have people scaling the walls if the phish reunion was there...it will never happen
If they can get Faith No More back together, that would be amazing.
So only 55 more hours, or something like that? Any parties being planned for that weekend?
So can we agree that no real headliner has been announced yet?
Wow, they are really keeping the line-up under wraps. Aren't they releasing the line-up tomorrow at midnight?
The White Stripes could headline Friday or even Saturday.
surely there will be a leak before midnight tomorrow?!
of course there will be, no worries
Jason "and the Scorchers" Ringenberg's site confirms he'll be rocking the family stage as his "twin brother" Farmer Jason.
For all we know, most of the schedule has already been leaked. The "list" has been somewhat accurate. No reason to think that a ton of bands on the list won't be on the final list.

leak please.
LMAO Guns n' Roses and Faith No More. What a bunch of fucking idiots you are.
The tradition I refer to...

Malone is right on the money.
Friday and Saturday you get two headliners and one starts and ends a little early for crowd control.

the way i heard it, maroon5 was closing out sunday night.
They don't even start working on timing until MUCH closer to the date. Usually around July, so that's probably complete wishlist and speculation.
God damn it...Maroon 5 and Train are total shit bands. They are not going to be at ACL. Pull your heads out of your asses.
